CREATE before you Consume: Day 6 (the SPREADSHEET)
I'm sharing proper behind-the scenes stuff...it's personal...
Hello my love,
RIGHT. I feel quite vulnerable about sharing this, but having shared it with two very trusted souls I am ready to show you my Substack spreadsheet (shared as a screenshot and also shared ready for you to use: please MAKE A COPY when you open it).
for background I set my “Create as you Consume” Challenge to “create a Substack you’re happy with, with a long-term plan and strategy, whilst leaving space for magic and spontaneous inspiration). Linked to this is working out my podcast, launching in 2024 (hopefully January!)
Here’s some things I’d like you to know about the spreadsheet:
It didn’t start out as a spreadsheet: rather I used the 30 circles sheet I shared on day 2 of the challenge (attached at the bottom of this post).
I then wrote lengthy bullet points by hand to expand upon my ideas.
I then transferred the information to the spreadsheet: the colour-coding you’ll see is simply to help my visual brain distinguish between the different sections.
I have a separate document with a list of people with whom I’d love to collaborate, that I have kept private. I am working on a project around rejection, that I’ll share with you later on.
I am sharing completely honestly and completely vulnerably here: some of my words might even seem a little thoughtless: but I want you see my planning brain and how this is a complete work in progress (Column E is being in my brain, so be kind to my brain!)
I am planning my Substack as part of my overall business model, so take that into account.
I reserve the right to change anything and everything on here!
(you can click on the image if reading in email to enlarge it, but you can also open the whole spreadsheet. Here is the LINK TO THE SPREADSHEET.)
Here’s some questions for you:
How does this spreadsheet make you feel?
What did you like?
Is there anything you would find expansive or restrictive?
How often do you think in this way about your content?
A final and essential point: this all links back to some of my core values of connection, community, creativity and transparency.
Let’s make this a conversation: see you in the comments.

Love this Laura! Very much in similar energy at the mo and got super spreadsheet happy last week! Must be a November thing! Ha! Excited to see it all evolve xx
I loved it Laura, very thoughtfully written. I am definitely going to use something like this. I've already planned out most of the posts for my second SS but I'm thinking more about creating a community for my first one and this will help with both. Thank you.
