12 days of Advent: a Substack Community Celebration #2
A fire-inspired winter ritual from Lyndsay Kaldor
Hi, I'm Laura, and I’m a multi-passionate mama of 3, excited about demystifying creativity, obsessed with other people’s pivots and delighted by flat whites, long walks and learning.
In winter, by invoking the energy of fire we can provide much-needed warmth, light and a focal point for togetherness.

Welcome to the second piece of 12 days of Advent: a Substack Community Celebration. It is such a treat for me to share these wonderful people and their gifts for us all with you. Today’s gift is from
: a mother, creative and storyteller with a background in interiors PR. She explores the intersection of creativity, mothering and the living world as the seasons turn, with her home and garden at the heart. Her Substack isFor today’s celebration, Lyndsay shares a beautiful winter ritual for you to enjoy: it’s short, it’s simple and you’ll absolutely love it.
Lyndsay writes…
A winter ritual inspired by the fire element. Winter signifies a time for me to be within the bones of my home.
The outside world, from the weather and the festive demands placed on us at this time of year can feel uncompromising.
It is a time that we need to be, in the words of Celtic priest and mystic John O’Donohue, “excessively gentle” with ourselves. In winter, by invoking the energy of fire we can provide much-needed warmth, light and a focal point for togetherness.
There are a number of simple rituals you can do to enhance the fire element at home, here is one of my favourites…

Thank you so much
for this beautiful ritual. Are there any rituals or routines you enjoy at this time of year (or any time of year, actually? I’m fascinated).

Gorgeous invitation, Lyndsay. I think I’ll do this today since I’m fully leaning into winter now. Feels like a sparkly way to gently welcome the festive season ✨
How beautiful.... this is such a soulful invitation. I love John O Donahues words too... I’ll have to ponder on this one. Feeling fully stocked, cosy and clean at home will go some way to helping me feel ready to stop I think...
